LivePreso was founded in 2014 by Aaron Cooper and Joel Thomson, who met in agency land, Joel as a creative director, Aaron as an executive producer of the digital team. They left to start their own agency, Story, built on a simple idea: help companies find and tell theirs.
One of those companies was REA Group. Among other things, the team helped REA's marketing department produce sales decks—carefully crafted, on-brand, and necessarily generic, because a deck built for everyone can't be built for any one customer.
And the first thing that happened to those decks was reps would tear them apart, rebuilding them deal by deal to make them relevant to the customer in front of them. That wasn't reps doing the wrong thing. It was reps doing exactly the right thing. The work just shouldn't have needed a person to do it manually, every time, at the cost of hours, consistency and brand control.
Around the same time, new technology—iPads, better data and BI tools—made something click: what if the story didn't have to be rebuilt by hand at all? What if it could be assembled, live, from real data, every time? REA jumped in as the first customer. All these years later, they still are.
